Painting is like a journey, you take different paths, you can get lost but if you find a wonderful place, you drop your bags.
Self-taught, Florence Thoirey-Fourcade came to painting late in life. She combines her profession as a public relations officer at the Théâtre de la Ville in Paris with her creation, which she gave herself over to as a matter of course some fifteen years ago. It is with the automatic drawing that she enters in matter, on paper where she lets slide her ballpoint pen at first, then the Indian ink. Abstract forms impose themselves to her, essentially around the circle. As drawing became more and more important in her life, she took courses in Plastic Arts in Villejuif and at the Greta, and then left the abstract forms to gradually touch the figurative.
Florence's favorite themes, inspired by Miro, Nicky de Saint-Phalle or singular art, are declined around characters that she wishes to borrow of tenderness and poetry, all from her imagination. Florence's universe is joyful and dreamlike, inhabited by unusual and whimsical beings, human or animal.The pencil drawing always precedes the acrylic color work on canvas of the artist. It gives life to the human beings who populate the essential of the compositions. Collages of silk paper, newspaper, with images stripped with acetone or writing, come to inhabit the whimsical and offbeat world on small square formats. Ochres, blues, reds make us slip into a cosmos of dreams and positive emotion.
