Medeya Lemdiya
A painting lives only through its viewer - Pablo Picasso
Medeya Lemdiya is a French artist born in Melbourne, Australia, in 1973, and now living in the Ariège Pyrenees. A passionate painter and designer, she draws her inspiration from pop culture, street art and tattooing. Her work on raw materials such as recycled metal bears witness to a unique artistic approach, where the contrast between cold materials and meticulous technique creates works that are both powerful and delicate. Medeya divides her time between her artistic practice and her work as a yoga teacher.
Medeya Lemdiya's work is deeply influenced by street art, pop art and tattoo culture, while also drawing inspiration from the great masters of Romanticism such as Géricault and Delacroix, and contemporary artists such as Francis Bacon and Jean-Michel Basquiat. Working on raw supports such as metal and zinc, she uses a mixed technique of acrylic, oil and varnish to create works that captivate with their strong visual impact. Medeya seeks to reach a wide audience by playing with cultural, social and political references, offering an accessible, hard-hitting reading of her times. Her creations, at once universal and singular, reveal a message of connection and sharing, where each viewer can find themselves and feel a deep connection with the work.
