I wish that emotions emerge from my paintings.
Originally from Paris, Laurence began studying art at the école d'Arts Plastiques PrépaSeine, before joining the Art Faculty at the Université ParisSorbonne. There, she acquired all of the historical and technical knowledge that would allow her to assure her practice, only to contradict it profoundly several years later. It was as such that having worked for ten long years producing figurative paintings, Laurence has today developed a completely different aspect of her practice, that she calls "abstract figuration". Laurence continually seeks to rid herself of technicality, with the aim of always driving further forward her pictorial approach, founded on intuition and emotion. The works created are gifted with great artistic strength, enriched by numerous sensitive indices that the artist seeks to share with her public, by inviting them to summon their imagination.
Covered beforehand in their entirety with large black blocks of colour, the canvases are executed quickly from acrylics mixed with marble powder that the painter applies to her support with large spatulas. Allowing herself to be completely guided by her action, Laurence "works with energy and letting go". The compositions are born from an entanglement of layers that allow traces of their production to appear in a game of textures and juxtapositions. Citing the Franco-Russian painter Nicolas De Staël (1914-1955): "when my painting is good, I always horrifically feel a large part of luck, like chance and vertigo", Laurence seeks at any price not to constrain her work with an excess of technical skills.
