I live in Provence and I draw from this land an incredible inspiration, the one of the moment, with its rocks, its hills and this magnificent light which inhabits my creation.
As a child, Catherine's discovery of Michelangelo was a first jolt, making her want to draw and paint. Her desire turned into a need that would never leave her. She studied at the Art School of Saint-Lô, the School of Fine Arts in Caen, and with Monique Baroni and Paul Ambille. After a stint in advertising and screen-printing in 1984 with the creation of her company, she met and worked in Dijon with a member of the Lyon school. The major contemporary painters of this school are André Cottavoz, Jacques Truphémus and Jean Fusaro. This movement's vision of painting consists of vertical inspiration, emphasizing neither depth nor perspective. From drawing to the exaltation of colour, Catherine fills her life with this need, this constantly renewed pleasure in painting. At the centre of her light-filled workshop, she plays with pigments to create new tones and new shades on landscapes and characters. She thus gives the depicted life a new vibration.
Catherine Vaudron begins her works by drawing, with a foothold in her pictorial work and present throughout the creative process. Then come the colours. Attaching great importance to the development of these, she manufactures them, refining and manipulating them patiently, and with passion. An integral and essential part of the construction of her work, she has few colours on her palette, but uses them with precision... at the right time and in the right place. In this way her compositions are structured using areas of dark colours and blank areas, amongst which the focal points can be found. This is similar to some works of the artists who have influenced her and continue to make her progress, such as Bonnard (1867-1947) and Gauguin (1843-1903).
