I always try to do what I don't know how to do, that's how I hope to learn to do it. Pablo Picasso
In his work, Julien Mikhel combines two fields that at first glance seem to be at odds. Firstly, drawing and sculpture, which he has been experimenting with since childhood. Secondly, technology, in particular 3D, which he has been working with since his studies and a career in engineering. At first out of curiosity, then passion, he gradually blended the know-how of the arts with cutting-edge technical processes. The health crisis decided him to devote himself to this hybrid artistic activity. A year later, Julien exhibited for the first time, and his creations quickly met with success.
In his artistic approach, Julien combines modern technology with traditional craftsmanship. He draws and designs his works digitally, then uses 3D printing to create a basic polymer structure that he reworks, sands and reshapes by hand. The last step is spray painting, with a brush or a felt-tip pen, to which he sometimes adds other materials to play with textures or effects. Always in search of novelty and innovation, the artist has many influences ranging from street art to classical sculpture through pop culture, childhood, nature or Egyptian mythology. For a long time, his model is Leonardo da Vinci, a multidisciplinary artist who also mixed art and engineering in his time. With his fine, complex and singular creations, Julien wishes to democratize sculpture by making it both unique and original.
