Watercolor does not forgive the errors of the artist, she likes the daring! (Helvetius Claude Adrian)
Mariya VOLYNSKIH's parents made her choose between art school and dance school when she was just 5 years old. She loved art so she went for the art school but the masterpieces hanging on the wall made her nervous. After just 3 months she won her first competition and earned a gold medal at the end of her studies at art school. Mariya then enrolled on a painting course at the Academy of Arts. She discovered the work of Airat Gainanov at an exhibition in 2013 and he became the Russian artist's source of inspiration.
Mariya VOLYNSKIH loves 19th and 20th century Russian art and has always been inspired by Impressionism and modern watercolour artists. She began working outdoors, studying colour and light to portray cityscapes, old towns, crumbling houses etc. The pieces and ideas may spring from the artist's head but they need time to grow and blossom, like a flower. Mariya then begins the design phase using the alla prima method. She soaks both sides of the paper and draws in one go. There's no way back after that. The artist carefully prepares a sketch of her work to achieve the result she wants. She uses her brush to capture her own reality and leave future generations with things and places that will no longer exist.
