The canvas is a white surface, where you can let your imagination run wild, sooner or later it will meet reality.
Alain was born and raised in Paris. When he was 12 years old he attended art workshops at the Louvre and this experience was a determining factor in his artistic orientation. At 16 he entered the Graphic Arts School of Corvisart, and after graduation he began painting and lived off of small odd jobs. He began exhibiting at the Autumn Art Fair at the Grand Palais in Paris. Several years would go by before he would realise the importance of painting in his life and decide to make it his career. At 40 he left Paris and moved to Brittany to devote himself fully to his passion.
Alain uses a knife to spread oil paint on canvas, paper or wood. To create his landscapes he uses building spatulas, which are wider and more rigid than traditional art knives. He draws his inspiration from his travels (Italy, Greece, Algeria, Tunisia) and the places where he has lived (Paris, Brittany).
His works can be viewed as travelogues and take the spectator to ‘Prussian Blue’ seas or invented cities. Anyone can relate to them, reliving one’s own experiences and recognizing places one has already visited. Painters such as William Turner (nineteenth century), Nicolas de Staël (twentieth century) and Paul Klee (twentieth century) inspire him. Like these masters, Alain is touched by the colours of Impressionism. His artistic research is a way to communicate emotions through his painting (sadness, joy or melancholy).
