A painting that is not serious, but done seriously...
A native of Montbéliard, Hank China found his passion in painting from a very young age. After his studies, the young artist from Franche-Comté turned towards a professional career in the field of graphic design, before he was struck with an irresistible urge to once again pick up his brushes in September 2012, devoting himself body and soul to his true calling.
Unlike graphic design, where he was bound by numerous rules, painting has “no limitations” for him in composition and form when he creates his works, leaving his imagination completely unbound. Thus, using an approach that is firmly focused on the expressiveness of his pictorial works, Hank China seeks to communicate a resolutely positive energy to his public, mixed with humour and an indescribable poetry.
Picking up where he left off in painting ten years earlier, the artist Hank China began producing several, vividly coloured canvases, saturated with graphical and stylistic elements, freely inspired from both childish iconography and animation movies as well as from artistic movements such as Pop art and Figuration libre.
Described by the artist as “punk-art” painting, the joyfully eclectic figuration of Hank China is expressed through various methods, such as acrylics, felt pens, chalks and even pencils, which he prefers combining with multiple inspirations, thereby creating canvasses that are generously expressive as well as dynamic.
