When paper is cut, folded and layered, it creates a subtle range of colors and shadows that imply form and depth.
All the way from the United States, Susan is a designer whose passion lies above all in her mastery of detail and the use of delicate modern techniques. With a degree in industrial design, she embarked on a career with some of the world's leading brands. She designed top-of-the-range shoes, always more innovative and comfortable, for sport, fashion and luxury. Drawing on her experience, Susan draws inspiration from craftsmanship, art and design to create original, streamlined works that combine artistic creation with cutting-edge technology.
Inspired by the charm of the everyday, Susan evokes her life and surroundings in elegant, subtle creations. Familiar scenes or mundane objects, her detailed, pared-down creations resonate with emotion. Her artistic process is long and rigorous. Her designs are first sketched in pencil, then digitized to become vector art. Refined to pixel accuracy, the resulting rendering is then finely cut with great precision. Finally, all the elements are meticulously assembled and glued together using tweezers and a glue filled syringe. The image, usually monochromatic, comes to life with the shadows formed by superimposed layers. Combining technical skill and originality, Susan's refined, minimalist style reinterprets the art of bas-reliefs with talent and modernity.
