In praise of slowness
Delphine Balme is a contemporary illustrator with a passion for the art of slowness. Born in Lyon in 1975, she started out as a textile designer and graphic artist before devoting herself fully to illustration in 2018. A graduate of the Beaux-Arts de Versailles and the École d'art appliqués Françoise Conte, Delphine has worked for various press groups. Her works, mainly in watercolor and Indian ink, recreate moments of everyday life with a personal, poetic touch. Today, she makes a living from her art and continues to explore new dimensions in her work.
Delphine Balme draws her inspiration from everyday life and the great masters of painting. Fascinated by the illustrations of her childhood, particularly in "J'aime Lire" magazines, she likes to recreate scenes of ordinary life, evoking calm, serenity and sharing. Influenced by artists such as Georges de la Tour, Vermeer, Friedrich, Gustave Doré and Moreau, as well as contemporaries such as Sempé, Andrea Serio and Camille Jourdy, Delphine personalizes her works by making her own colors with pigments from Apt. Her technique, which blends watercolor and Indian ink, gives her creations a unique texture and depth, inviting us to contemplate life's little moments.
