Description artwork
This unique and original contemporary artwork "Carmen" was created by contemporary artist Corinne Malfreyt.
The scene takes up Corinne Malfreyt's main inspiration: dance and Pina Bausch's choreography to the Music of the "Rite of Spring". A woman in red seems to challenge the dancers around her. The artist has added a distant architecture reminiscent of ramparts and arenas, adding a theatrical note to the painting.
Art critic Piero Cavalleri writes: "For Corinne Malfreyt, inspired by Pina BAUSCH's choreography "The Rite of Spring" by Igor STRAVINSKY, the space between the bodies is still dance. On her canvases, she installs an architecture of rhythms and chromatic nuances, a declension of grays sometimes punctuated by resonant reds, where the dancers' momentum seeks and finds its place (...)
The artist's technique is original: she glues sand on the canvas and paints with a knife and oil for a painting all in matter.
