Denouncing the way our world works is an integral part of my creative process.
It is through graffiti, street art and urban cultures that young Antoine Seurot from Franche-Comté, who lives in Vesoul (Haute-Saône), got into painting. Once he had finished high school, he took part in a general training course on web trades in Montbéliard (Doubs) in 2008, in order to specialise in graphic design. With a technology degree from university in the bag, he got his first job. His desire for artistic creation, felt throughout adolescence, became more pressing. “A friend with whom I was doing graffiti began to do canvases and it made me want to start." He painted his first paintings in 2011, beginning with the art of stencilling before picking up his brushes without any formal training.
Antoine is also self-taught in the way in which he approaches his subjects: “I went to the Belfort library quite a bit to tackle various painting techniques. I started painting animals. I wanted to do something creative and it emerges from these representations as a form of suffering, like mute cries.”
He uses acrylic paint, oil and paint bombs to bring his paintings to life. And everything inspires him: news, society, feelings, nature, which express themselves in bright colours ranging to black and white in order to better denounce “the way in which the world works”. "Visiting museums like the Maeght Foundation in Saint-Paul-de Vence influenced me a lot.”
