An image arrives, figurative. It becomes surrealist by the diversion of its meaning. This is not a pipe, painted Magritte!
Self-taught, Surrealist...Passionate...A little dream and
Lionel paints exclusively on linen canvas and likes to create backgrounds using an airbrush, which allows him to play with both shades of colour and light variations. Then, equipped with a range of acrylics, which require a relatively short drying time, the painter works quickly, precisely and meticulously on creating his subjects. Lionel draws his inspiration as much from the works of surrealists such as René Magritte (1898-1967) and Salvador Dalí (1904-1989) as from the avant-garde pictorial universe of Jérôme Bosch (c.1450-1516). In addition, he also feels close to more contemporary painters such as Zdzis?aw Beksi?ski (1929-2005) or Claude Verlinde (born in 1927).
