Man Kwon Young | Contemporary Artist: Artworks & Biography

Man Kwon Young
  • France
  • Painter

After studying drawing in South Korea, where he was born, Yong-Man Kwon quickly began exhibiting throughout Asia. He did not forget his artistic vocation when he joined the French Foreign Legion, where his talents earned him a position as an illustrator and graphic designer. After five years of service, he became the official painter of the army, and received numerous awards in civilian and military salons. In addition to this prestigious position, he explored a wide range of subjects, including a series of paintings of the Hall of Mirrors in Versailles and landscapes of Paris and New York. He likes to sketch on the spot or, if he can, to work directly on the spot in order to capture the essence of the places and characters. Indeed, he always puts his style at the service of his subject, here to make us hear the whispers in the corridors of a museum, there to make sensitive the wild strength of a horse or the power of a sports car. His sharp sense of observation and his great technical mastery allow him to show several facets of the same moment, creating an irresistible impression of movement. Saturating each canvas with color and light, he takes the viewer into a world where every detail is a source of beauty.
