A quote from Paul Klee: "Art does not reproduce the visible; rather it makes visible".
Ann is originally from Belgium and lived in Téhéran for several years before settling in the South of France with her family. She has a deep interest in biology and devotes most of her time to watching animals, insects and other plants and trying to capture them in her work. As a teenager, she learned to paint using oil paint. Still torn between her passion for science and her strong penchant for artistic creation, Ann devoted herself many long years studying dental surgery. During the five years she worked as a Clinical Research Associate Ann continued to teach herself to make art. In 2004 she finally decided to sign up for a professional workshop on material imitations in Avignon. Two years later, she decided to become an artist and to spend her time making paintings.
Living in the Vaucluse, Ann made figurative paintings that were strongly symbolic and that oscillated between dreamlike sequences and disenchantment. Her visual works are composed of a large bestiary; meticulously cast, dressed and groomed and they aim to pose as metaphors of our humanity. "In a misleadingly childlike way, [her] canvases are in fact made to resemble life: there are wounds but everything is in full colour, there are gashes but they end up revealing another way out." Therefore, it is by way of this original and sensitive representation that Ann composes short stories that always give her work a strong feeling of hope and encouragement.
