Art is standing with one hand extended into the universe and one hand extended into the world, and letting ourselves be a conduit for passing energy.
Mauro De Giorgi is an Italian painter. He has always been passionate about art, poetry and music, and has participated in many projects over the years, ranging from painting to live performance to digital art. Graduated in Sociology and Communication, he works for several years in advertising agencies, before creating his own and working with several major brands. In parallel to his career, he continues to create and develop his art. In 2010, he moved to London and exhibited his paintings in various European galleries. In 2015, he was selected to participate in the Venice Biennale. One of his works was also published in the book of the Benetton collection "Preastigium". In 2017, he left London for Tokyo, where he became interested in Japanese aesthetics and art. Mauro has participated in several exhibitions and artistic events in France, Italy, USA, Australia, England and Asia.
It was during his trip to Japan that the Italian artist discovered sumi-e and shodo, traditional Japanese techniques. It is immediately love at first sight for the painter, who will even work alongside the master of sumi-e, Shukou Tsuchiya. Mauro De Giorgi's works are thus realized with ink and mix the Western style with the Japanese sensibility. Playing on imagery and the unconscious, the artist uses traditional Japanese techniques and attempts to achieve balance and purity through a minimal and creative approach. Sumi, the main technique used by the painter, is characterized by subjects painted in black ink, in a single spontaneous gesture and by the minimalism of the paint strokes.
