The oil-knife technique allows me to have a direct rendering and not to stray too far from the original idea.
Franck Hébert has made painting his main means of expression since the early 90s, after having practiced and taught guitar for many years. Eager to learn, he attended the Beaux Arts in Caen, as well as many local painters, whose diversity would nourish his work. Since the early 2000s, he has taken part in numerous exhibitions and seen his work rewarded at art fairs. Today, he devotes himself fully to painting in his studio in Pleneuf Val André, Brittany, and exhibits in numerous galleries throughout France. An avid traveler, Frank often sketches on the spot, then transforms his memories of Paris, Venice and Morocco into works of ochre and gold. Although he always remains in the figurative realm, he never hesitates to verge on the abstract, to shake up his habits and bring ever more life to his painting.
Over the years, his main subject has remained light, which he captures in its shattered form or breaks down into swift movements. He was first inspired by the Impressionists and then developed his own style under the influence of English painters such as Edward Seago. Using oil paint and thanks to his confident gestures with the knife, he is able to cut up the urban landscape into multiple mirroring surfaces onto which light is reflected in its infinity, shattering here and there into sprays of sparks. His multicolour seascapes perfectly capture the chaos of the mad swells and even his still life seem inhabited by inextinguishable energy.
