There's a garden in every childhood, an enchanted place where colors are brighter, and mornings are more fragrant than ever.
Fleur Marjoline, after studying applied arts and a 12-year career as a textile designer, discovered watercolor at a workshop in 2012. Seduced by this technique, she decided to realize her childhood dream of illustrating children's books, and trained as an illustrator for three years. In 2023, she left her salaried job to devote herself entirely to illustration and watercolor. Fascinated by childhood and the imaginary, her works captivate with their ability to transport the viewer into enchanted worlds.
Fleur Marjoline works mainly in watercolor on satin-grain paper. She begins by painting backgrounds on wet paper, letting the pigments fuse, then adds figures and details once the background has dried. Inspired by the landscapes of her childhood and those around her, she admires Douanier Rousseau's treatment of landscapes, as well as the snowy scenes of 16th-century Flemish painters such as Brueghel. Her illustrations also evoke the world of great illustrators such as Sempé, Beatrix Potter and Rebecca Dautremer. Fleur likes to capture a precise moment, telling a story in a single image and letting the viewer imagine the beginning and end of that story.
