It is not hard to be inspired where I live with all of the water, islands, boats and birds. Winters are long, hard and tucking up by the woodstove. Painting is the perfect remedy.
Natasha is a self-taught painter who lives and works on the Island of Fundy Bay, located on the Canadian Coast. Her native region remains wild and relies mainly on fishing. It has strong tides that constantly influence its character and alter its coastal landscape. The artist is greatly affected by the unbridled nature associated with the history of the island.
Each of her paintings is unique even if the subject represented is sometimes similar - the scenes painted correspond to a fragment of the artist's memory in which her spirit interprets the landscape as a collection of places visited or dreamed of-. Refusing to add too many details and any superfluous elements, Natasha wishes to give the viewer a sober and appeasing scene that everyone can appropriate and which can, in turn, enrich each person’s own interpretation.
Natasha uses acrylic paint mixed with charcoal that she makes herself using charcoal extracted directly from a wood fire made at home. Her favourite subjects are marine landscapes. She reproduces them in a harmonious palette of blacks and greys.
The thread of her work is the movement of the sun that inspires her and leads her to represent horizons only at the moment when the sun is beginning to set. Contrary to the omnipresence of the boat - which she always uses in her work and interprets as her signature -, the human elements seem entirely absent, with the exception of several traces of their existence: houses, rafts, hanging laundry, etc. They are represented with great finesse and the figures that do stand out against the peaceful landscapes are soft even though they are represented with frank colours that catch the eye.
