"No matter can be intelligible without shadow and light. Shadow and light are derived from light."
Da Vinci
Self-taught painter, born in a family where painting and music have always been part of his daily life, Vincent Léger has been practicing this art since he was very young. Refusing a classical training in fine arts, he chooses to learn painting by himself, without codes or restrictions, while following a curriculum in architecture and landscape where the creative aspect meets the physical reality of a place and an order. He learned the rudiments of pastel, watercolor and oil by copying paintings of masters such as Raphael, Caravaggio, Caillebotte and Hopper.
The light, its vibrations, its way of revealing the forms on which it is deposited, is his main thread. For him, everything is energy and vibrations. His work in fine lines allows him to find this vibration that he perceives around him. Fascinated by portraits, the gaze, the play of light and shadow, he seeks to transmit an emotion where the act of painting is for him an act of knowledge of the world that surrounds us, visible and invisible.
A graduate of the Ecole Nationale Supérieure du Paysage de Versailles, Vincent Léger, born in 1978, is the manager of the Parisian landscape architecture agency Babylone, which he created in 2003.
