The beauty of things exists in the mind of the beholder. David Hume
With a glance in the rear-view mirror, Gilbert Duchamp sees himself as a young man on his way to becoming an artist. At school, he started drawing and reproduced illustrations of animals, comics or school books. In high school, he learned the work of light, black and white and various painting techniques. His life took a turn when he discovered his passion for beautiful cars while looking at a Don Eddy painting. After a school of architecture, he approaches the history of the art and embraces his first creations around the car.
Cars of yesteryear, iconic models, sports cars or mechanical jewels, this car enthusiast never runs out of inspiration. The artist starts from a photograph and wishes to highlight on the canvas what is not visible, thus giving another dimension to reality. Like a mise en abîme by the detail, he plays on the lights, the colors, the angles or the reflections. He uses acrylic to detail his subject, focusing in turn on the headlights, the bodywork or the hubcaps, nothing escapes his gaze. Transported by the hyperrealism of the 60's and 70's and the pop art, Gilbert embarks with his public to share his motorized passion. Some even confuse his painting with photography, which he considers a compliment and perfectly sums up the quality of his work.
