I don't speak easily of my work and prefer the idea that art is expressed much more by the work itself than by the artist.
Shelley discovered art early in her childhood thanks to her father who was a painter. He indulged in classical painting with brushes and inspired in his daughter a taste drawing and colour. She spent her adolescence in the Paris region where she attended various Fine Arts workshops. Even as an art lover, she still didn’t plan to make art her profession. She settled in the South East and began by working in a service business.
With motherhood she returned to her youthful passion and began painting again. She completed her artistic training as self-taught, always in search of harmony between form and colour. She discovered the intense light of Aix-enProvence. Her village, Les Terres Rouges, contrasts the bright colours of the earth with the pastel shades of the Sainte-Victoire Mountain.
Shelley now lives in Bordeaux but regularly returns to Aix-en-Provence where she has her studio.
Linseed oil paints have always been present in Shelley's life. She is primarily a colourist, in love with the southern light. Her work describes her intimate world and her imaginary travels. She offers a very personal and stimulating style of painting. Her canvases are meetings with a more spiritual and abstract universe where everyone can find himself. Her knife works the nuances of red and orange which catch the light. She also paints swatches of soft colours that soothe.
Shelley wants to be a painter of emotions, and draws from nature and its light the soft or strong emotions that run through us all. The landscapes with their silent secrets give birth to an atmosphere that, with the complicity of colour and medium, is expressed in her paintings.
