In my works, the imaginary world is often found in depth and light, which are symbols of life and hope.
A diligent draughtsman, young Maurizio joined the studio of a painter and sculptor based in Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne at the age of ten. During the fifteen years he spent at his side, the artist taught him to master the technique of oil painting, introducing him to the work of materials and light, and immersing him in the world of fine art. In 2010, Maurizio decided to step back from his professional career to devote himself entirely to painting, thus enabling him to "balance his life".
An adept of knife-worked oil painting, Maurizio conceives his canvases as fragments of history, "that of [his] life's journey". His works are produced in a monochrome of tones, mostly from a palette of grays, occasionally enhanced by touches of bright color. Freely figurative, they depict urban scenes in which the interplay of perspective, matter and light are omnipresent. This compositional work, with its resolutely contemporary touch, gives all its strength to the works created. An enthusiast of pictorial art, his influences range from the paintings of Impressionist painters to the works of the "masters of light" who, for him, are Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio (known as Caravaggio), the English painter and engraver William Turner and the contemporary artist Pierre Soulages.
